How to Choose Your Wedding Bouquet? 💐

Are you wondering how to choose your bridal bouquet based on your outfit? Your body shape? What flowers should you include in it?

I will help you.

As a florist specializing in weddings and events, my mission is to guide engaged couples through the various stages of planning their wedding. Just like choosing the dress, the selection of the bridal bouquet is a key step in this process.

Today, I’m here to help you find a bouquet that truly suits you, one that highlights your beauty and makes you the queen of the day!

To choose a bouquet that you love and that reflects your personality, I recommend selecting a bouquet shape that fits your theme, your dress, and your body type. A flowing bohemian-style gown will be beautifully complemented by a loose, natural bouquet or a cascading bouquet, while a classic round bouquet adorned with pearl accents will enhance a strapless dress. For the flowers, pick ones that you enjoy, that are in season for your wedding, and that match your décor. Finally, don’t hesitate to coordinate your bouquet with your fiancé’s boutonnière, as well as with floral hairstyles and accessories for you and your bridesmaids.

Who Takes Care of the Bridal Bouquet? 👰

Traditionally, it was the future groom who chose the bouquet for his future wife.

However, customs have changed and evolved, and now it is most often the partner who is responsible for choosing the bouquet!

That being said, to ensure that your wedding planning allows you to create shared memories, I recommend going to the florist together and selecting the floral arrangements for your wedding as a couple.

This is a great opportunity to discover that your future husband might be very sensitive to the beauty of flowers! Plus, by planning your wedding together, you will create festivities that truly reflect your couple and represent who you are!

What Are the Different Types of Wedding Bouquets? 💐

Are you looking for a bouquet that will enhance both your figure and your dress? Would you like something a bit more unique?

In the following lines, I’ll share all my tips for carefully selecting your bridal bouquet.

The Classic Round Bouquet

🔸 What type of bouquet?

This is a small, delicate bouquet with a half-spherical shape. The flowers are arranged in a straight line and positioned at the same height, creating a simple, round bouquet.

It can be made with most flowers, including roses and orchids. Your florist can also easily add accessories or natural decorations (like twisted wood, cork, etc.) to give it a sophisticated look.

🔸 Who is it for?

This traditional bouquet is suitable for everyone. It complements any body shape and works well with any dress. While it may not be the most original choice, it’s a reliable option.

Generally, your florist will adjust the size to your body shape, ensuring you look great in photos, so it’s neither too small nor too large.

👉 Regarding the handle, for this type of bouquet, it is typically completely wrapped in a ribbon in white or pastel shades. Pearlescent pins can be used for the finishing touches.

The Soft, Rustic Bouquet

🔸 What type of bouquet?

Very trendy in recent years, this type of bouquet is much less formal than the previous one.

The stems of the flowers are not all the same height, giving the impression of a wildflower bouquet picked from the fields. It is usually larger as well, and can be made with fresh flowers, dried flowers, or a mix of both.

It typically consists of wildflowers that are fine and delicate. There may also be some foliage, particularly eucalyptus, that adds to its natural look.

👉 The handle is also less formal than with a traditional bouquet: the flower stems are not completely hidden, and a simple natural ribbon serves as an attractive tie.

🔸 Who Is It For?

This type of bouquet is perfect for you if you’re planning a rustic wedding that embraces nature. It will beautifully complement a long, flowing gown. While it is especially suited for tall individuals, it will work well with any bohemian-style dress.

The Cascading Bouquet

🔸 What type of bouquet?

Commonly referred to as a “cascade bouquet,” this type of bouquet is typically shaped like a teardrop.

The flowers are arranged in a foam ball, positioned at the top of a handle. They cascade down to create an elegant and refined waterfall. Vining foliage is also used, including ivy, tradescantia, and string-of-hearts.

Finally, your florist can also add delicate details by entwining a string of pearl beads, for example. This is a crafted bouquet that is usually more expensive than the previous ones, but also more unique.

🔸 Who is this for?

This gorgeous bouquet is perfect for a chic and romantic wedding. It complements most long dresses and will beautifully enhance the look of a bride wearing a veil.

I would advise against wearing it with a dress that is too bulky or short, as it may not flatter your figure.

The Structured Bag Bouquet

🔸 What type of bouquet?

This structured bouquet is very original and will certainly stand out. Since it’s a true work of floral art, it should be created and planned in advance with your florist. The possibilities are endless! For a retro wedding, it may be a bit pricey, but it allows you to make a statement for a day that happens only once in a lifetime!

🔸 Who is this for?

This bouquet is intended for those who want to step outside the ordinary with an exceptional bouquet. It suits all dress styles and body types, as it is custom-made by your florist, who will consider these factors to help you select the flowers and shape of your structured bouquet.

Which Flowers to Choose for Your Bridal Bouquet? 🌼

This is an important question that I would like to tackle from a general perspective, as a special article dedicated to the creation of a bridal bouquet will be published later on the blog.

To help you choose the flowers for your bridal bouquet, I will answer the detailed questions in the following lines.

➡️ What are your favorite flowers and colors?

You’ll definitely want to include flowers in your bouquet that you love and that hold special meaning for you. Don’t hesitate to do some research before visiting your florist!

➡️ What style have you chosen for your wedding?

While some flowers like Roses or Lilies evoke a more chic romantic wedding, others are associated with a more natural and rustic vibe. For example, wildflowers such as Chamomile, Thistle, and Lavender fall into this category.

Choose flowers that match the theme of your wedding to create a harmonious arrangement.

➡️ Have you already chosen the flowers and other decorative elements?

If you want to decorate your car with beautiful orchids, for instance, I recommend adding a few to your bouquet as well to create a cohesive look.

Your entire decor should be cohesive, which means using the same flowers throughout the different spaces you design.

➡️ In which season are you getting married?

Some flowers are only available during specific seasons… it’s hard to find peonies in September, or dahlias in the spring! This is an important factor to consider when choosing your flowers: to learn more, feel free to ask a professional or leave a comment at the end of this article!

➡️ Would you like to keep it as a memento after the ceremony?

If that’s the case, I recommend choosing eternal or dried flowers. This will allow you to preserve your bouquet as a keepsake from that wonderful day!

Which Floral Accessories to Match Your Wedding Bouquet?

While the bridal bouquet is the focal point of wedding attire, it will be even more beautifully highlighted if it is paired with other accessories that complement it.

The Groom’s Boutonnière 🤵

This small accessory, made up of one or two different flowers, is worn with a suit on the left lapel of the jacket. It is typically worn by the groom, and may also be worn by his best men or close male family members.
