What is a Germini? How is it different from a Gerbera?
If you go to your florist to buy gerberas, they might offer you germinis instead. These are actually a smaller version of gerberas with a smaller diameter: they are sold at a lower price (sometimes half the price) and are perfectly suited for decorating small vases.
These little flowers are very popular with children. Since they are not too fragile, kids can easily create a bouquet or a small floral arrangement with them.
How to Care for a Bouquet of Gerbera Daisies?
Would you like to know how to take care of a bouquet of gerberas so you can enjoy them for as long as possible? It’s quite simple, as this flower is fairly hardy. However, there are a few easy steps you can take to help maintain their beauty:
- When you receive the bouquet, unpack it and place it in a vase of fresh water, keeping it out of direct sunlight, drafts, and any heat sources (like radiators or ovens).
- Next, change the water every 48 to 72 hours. You can add a flower preservative if one is provided with the bouquet.
- If the ends of the stems start to soften and turn brown, trim them at an angle just above the healthy part.

How to Care for a Gerbera in the Garden?
Do you have a garden and want to grow this plant? It’s quite simple, as we will see in the following sections. First, I suggest you watch this video, which covers the essential information you need to grow these flowers at home:
How to Grow Gerbera Daisies?
Gerbera can be planted either in a pot if it is a variety that is not frost-resistant, or in the garden.
☑ In a pot, it will enjoy the sunlight from a sunroom or greenhouse.
☑ In the garden, you can plant it once the last frosts have passed, in a bright location.
💦 Whether it’s a potted plant or a variety grown in the ground, it requires regular and abundant watering during its growth.
How to Preserve Gerberas in Winter?
As mentioned in the previous video, it’s essential for your plants to survive the winter to choose a hardy variety, such as the Gerbera Garvinea. This variety can survive temperatures as low as -10°! By planting it in rich, well-aerated soil, where the roots can anchor deeply, it should make it through the winter without any problems.
At the time of planting, you can add some clay pellets to the hole where you’ll be placing your gerbera to improve drainage.
Finally, before and during the winter, consider mulching your gerbera with wood chips or straw to provide extra protection against the cold.
